Our
Guiding Principles
GGRC believes in building a
strong community within and beyond its Club and, by embracing the
philosophy of rowing as a metaphor for life, inspires its
members to adopt the ideals of teamwork, good sportsmanship and
commitment as they move from the water and into the greater
community. Our guiding principles are two-fold:
Community: The sport of rowing is the United States' oldest
intercollegiate sport, but it has also been one of the most
elitist. GGRC is committed to educating and serving, through
affordable adult and youth rowing programs, the traditionally
rowing-free communities surrounding the Mystic and Malden
Rivers. All are welcome. Also, GGRC is dedicated to improving
and preserving their environment through regular participation
in local cleanup and service programs, believing that being an
active member of the community is an important part of being a
good neighbor.
Challenge: Speed, grace, and power are the key elements of
any racing crew. GGRC provides competitive opportunities and
encourages each member, whether novice or experienced racer, to
experience the challenge of competition and, most importantly,
to strive to achieve his or her personal best. |
