The Mystic River

The site chosen as the home of the Gentle Giant Rowing Club is the Blessing of the Bay Boathouse on the Mystic River. The site is ideal for numerous reasons including logistics, accessibility and river traffic.

For commuters, the chosen site allows for cars to approach GGRC from all directions on the major highways of Route 16 and 128, or Route 93. Parking is also readily available at the boathouse and along Shore Drive. The T offers access along the regular Orange Line and Commuter Rail services just minutes away.

The Blessing of the Bay Boathouse also allows for immediate access to the river where crews can be equidistant up the Mystic or down the Malden River. The yacht clubs are sufficiently distanced to avoid congestion in any one area and the site has clear viewing to any river traffic.

Compared to the Charles River crews, GGRC has fewer issues with river congestion worries. At peak rowing time on the Charles, as many as 500 rowers may be on the water whereas GGRC may be sharing the river with Tufts crew and some yachters depending on time.
