Blessing of the Bay Boathouse
Gentle Giant Rowing Club currently rows out of the Blessing of the Bay Boathouse in the Ten Hills neighborhood of Somerville. The boathouse is slated for renovation/reconstruction. The City of Somerville has also invested in a new $50,000 dock for the boathouse which will be installed within the next year. This location affords easy access to the Mystic River with its picturesque shores and beautiful wildlife. The limited use of the Mystic River by others provides us with abundant water to practice and race on.
We also support rowing programs at 356 Commercial St, Malden, MA behind the Malden DPW. This sheltered portion of the Malden/Mystic Rivers is ideal for learning to row and training for racing. Improvements to the river have also made this ascetically pleasing as well. The trees and foliage growing along both sides of the river protects this portion of the river from cross breezes that can cause difficulties with keeping a boat "set”.
